If you're a business owner with hourly employees, HR issues are taking more of your time each day to address. Consequences of the pandemic experience are forcing you to support your employees in new ways. Here are a few tips based on my experience.
If your employees are experiencing mental health challenges:
If you have less than 100 employees, you've likely expected your health insurance to address this need. As more people experience a need, consider utilizing an on demand HR support call solution. The cost is manageable and the communication is private and confidential.
Hiring and Recruitment: What worked before may no longer work. Get creative and offer something unique that Amazon or another big competitor for talent may not. If you can be flexible with hours, work from home, or other perks it's worth a try. Experiment and evolve your offer until you find a formula that delivers results.
Employee Retention: We have seen behavioral issues occur which have not been an issue before. It’s frustrating, but remember the factors at play. Demand for workers is very high, and pay is growing. Take time to understand the situation and needs of your staff. You may be able to offer growth or education opportunities that mean more to them than another $1 per hour.
Running a small business is hard. It’s even more difficult in the current unstable economic conditions. I’m here to help. Let me know if you would like to discuss implementing any of these strategies in your business.
